Entry Requirement

Public schools in different regions of Canada have slightly differing age requirements. Listed below is the grade structure for schools in Ontario for elementary and secondary education. Students will be placed into the respective grade levels according to their age requirements.

a.

Grade 1 - 6 (6 years old - 11 years old)

b.

Grade 7 - 8 (12 years old - 13 years old)

c.

Grade 9 - 12 (14 years old - 17 years old)

Some schools require international applicants to perform a simple assessment with the students and arrange for an ESL (English as Second Language) lesson for them. These lessons typically take around 4-8 months to complete. International students are able to attend regular classes and ESL lessons concurrently, allowing them to have the same study schedule as domestic students.

It is mandated by the law that international students below the age of 17 have to prove that they will receive proper care and support during their entire course of study in Canada. Parents or guardians can choose to physically accompany their child to the country or appoint a custodian in Canada to provide care and support for their child. Below are the documents required for enrolment:

Entry Requirement

To ensure that the academic schedule aligns with the admission period for tertiary institutions, private schools follow the similar age requirements for the respective grade levels. Students who are of the age requirements will be arranged into the respective grade levels as listed below.

a.

Grade 1 - 6 (6 years old - 11 years old)

b.

Grade 7 - 8 (12 years old - 13 years old)

c.

Grade 9 - 12 (14 years old - 17 years old)

During the application process, the school will require both student and parent to attend an interview session with the admission officer. On top of that, the student may also be required to sit for an assessment test by the school or take the SSAT (Secondary School Assessment Test) in order to be eligible for admission. International applicants may also be required to demonstrate a satisfactory English language proficiency. Below are the documents required for admission:

Applicant’s final report card for the past two years

Applicant’s latest report card

4.

Applicant’s birth certificates, passport, and/or personal identification documents

5.

Letter of recommendation from the previous school or teacher (academic recommendation / personal recommendation)

Entry Requirement

Students who plan to study in a college in Canada must be 18 years old or above by the time of registration.  International students must provide their high school qualifications with certificates or transcript documents evaluated by an independent credential assessment agency such as the World Education Service (WES) or International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS) in order to prove that it is of equivalent standard to Canada’s high school diploma. Postgraduate applicants must provide a transcript and certificates from a university or college that is accepted by the assessment bodies mentioned above.

International applicants will also need to show proof of English language proficiency in order to be eligible for enrolment. Below are the documents required for enrolment:

Entry Requirement

All international applicants should have completed a qualification equivalent to the Grade 12 level of Canada’s secondary education for admission consideration. International students from non-native English-speaking countries should provide proof of English language proficiency result such as IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent with satisfactory grade. Below are the documents required for enrolment:

Original or certified copies of applicant’s secondary education (senior high school)/post-secondary education transcripts including the courses taken, grade, and qualification obtained
